Empowering Change for a Brighter Tomorrow
Transportation provided by renewable sources is booming. Cars, buses, trucks, trains, boats, ships, airplanes, jets are becoming increasingly powered by electricity produced renewably, without fossil fuel. Batteries of various sorts, lithium and iron or other metals, hydrogen fuel cells and new sources of stored energy are being created in every country in the world. The steps to change transportation from fossil fuel to renewable fuel sources is well underway and thriving.

Electric Cars and trucks in the USA 2025
This year and 2026 will see a blossoming of many new models by new and know companies. Old models are becoming less expensive, and the USA Inflation Reduction Act created under Biden and Harris has subsidized the buying of vehicles with federal tax write offs for those qualified (check) of $4000 for a pre-owned vehicle that has not has the write used yet, and $7000 for a new vehicle. Used 2018-2021 Bolts, Teslas, Konas seem to be about $17000, to $25000. EV batteries last a long time. But check out the slow, medium fast and extra fast charging capacities of older cars. Road trippers would want fast charging capacity. Everyday use home charging would not necessarily need it.
One gallon of gasoline when burned created 20 lbs of CO2. Diesel fuel produces about 12% more. So going electric and charging your car on a solar network is save you from making 20 lbs of CO2 per gallon of gas burned you would create with your regular gas fossil fuel car. (Not to mention digging it up and refining it.) A hybrid perhaps averages ~40 miles per gallon, and a regular gasoline burning car averages perhaps ~20 miles per gallon.
So for a 12,000 mile driving year if you went electric, charged with solar or wind or geothermal, could refrain from creating 12000mi/20mpg =600 gallons x 20 lbs per gallon = 12,000 lbs of C02 per year created from your regular gas car. If it was hybrid 12000mi/40 mpg= 300 gallons x 20lbs per gallon= 6000 lbs of C02 per year from your hybrid.
In 2023 ~ 15.5 million gasoline light cars and trucks were sold in the USA. 15,500,000 vehicles going ~12,000 each x 12000 lbs C02 produced by burning gas = 186,000,000,000 thats 186 billion lbs of C02 a year. Not counting hybrids or diesel engines.
In 2023 there were on the road 3.5 million electric vehicles on the road in 2023. The number of new electric vehicles sold in the USA in 2023 was 1.4 million, a 50 % increase in 1 year. During Trump years in the Whitehouse the EPA had to roll back over 100 environmental laws protecting the environment and wildlife. And take down websites about pollution and global warming, which was significantly increased. ( New York Times Climate, https://nyti.ms/2FzhGBm )
EV manufacturers guarantee their EV batteries similarly. For example, Hyundai Ioniq 5…. warrantees **The 10-Year/100,000-Mile Hybrid/Electric Battery Warranty applies to all U.S. 2024 model-year IONIQ 5s. The Lifetime Hybrid/Electric Battery Warranty ensures that if the lithium-ion polymer battery fails, Hyundai will replace the battery and cover recycling costs for the old battery free of charge to the original owner. The Lifetime Hybrid/Electric Battery Warranty does not apply to lease, commercial vehicles or vehicles serviced outside the U.S. Original Owner only. Warranty is non-transferable and not valid on exported vehicles.
***EPA-estimated 303-mile driving range for 2024 IONIQ 5 SE/SEL/Limited RWD; 260-mile driving range for 2024 IONIQ 5 SE/SEL/Limited AWD; and 220-mile driving range for 2024 IONIQ 5 SE RWD (Standard Range). All figures are EPA estimates and based on a fully charged battery. For comparison purposes only. Actual range will vary based on a number of factors, including vehicle options, driving conditions and habits, vehicle and battery’s condition and outside temperature.
Most ev cars give an estimated 3.8 miles per kilowatt of battery size. A chevy bolt euv 2023 reported driving on flat roads at 50 mph with minimal ac, and getting 5 miles per kwh. A kwh costs different amounts in different places. NYC recent cost for residential was $.51/kwh. Upstate NY it is about $.27 per kwh.
